Members of the Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Church, PNCC, of Little Falls held their 84th annual parish meeting on Sunday January 30th. The parish was formed in 1926. In the PNCC, all members have a voice and a vote. The Church is fully Catholic yet democratically organized and controlled. Churches may not be closed without the consent of the members of the parish.

The first Parish Committee consisted of the following trustees; John Lolo, Henry Wiernicki, John Fortuna, Peter Wojcicki, Peter Mikus and Alexander Mikus.

The new committee, elected at the meeting, consists of Chairperson John Rogers, Vice-chair Teddie Colorito, Treasurer Francis Crandall, Financial Secretary Karen Filipski, Recording Secretary Janice Kupidlowski-Rogers and Directors Suzanne Bladek, Joan Crandall, Amy Brien, Tim Brien, Anita Dulak, Jimmy Filipski, Ron Hrobuchak, Gary Crandall, Jennifer Crandall and Ken Scherer.

The PNCC was organized in Scranton, PA in 1897. Some of the differences between the denomination and Roman Catholicism are that PNCC priests are allowed to marry, the use of birth control is a personal decision, and the PNCC is democratically organized.

Holy Mass is normally offered at the church on Sundays at 11 a.m. and on Saturdays at 4 p.m. in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 32 West Main Street in St. Johnsville.

To learn more about the parish please call Fr. Rafal at (315) 823-0793.

Fr. Rafal Dadello and members of the Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Church, PNCC, as well as members of the Catholic Community of St. Johnsville, joined other Polish National Catholics at the Good Shepherd PNCC, in Amsterdam for the annual meeting of the Mohawk Valley Seniorate council. The PNCC was organized in Scranton, PA in 1897. The denomination has over 25,000 members in North America. A Seniorate contains a number of churches, normally grouped by geographic regions. The Mohawk Valley Seniorate is one of five in the Central Diocese which is headquartered in Scranton. The Seniorate is comprised of PNCC churches in Latham, Schenectady, Amsterdam, Little Falls, New York Mills, Rome and Syracuse. The clergy of the Seniorate are under the supervision of the Very Rev. Walter Madej.

Approximately 20 people attended the October 30th meeting which was held in the parish hall following a prayer service. Though concerns about declining participation and increasing costs were a concern, the meeting was uplifting and many successes were shared.

Delegates from the Mohawk Valley Seniorate

Many of those in attendance will be joining other Polish National Catholics at the upcoming installation of the new Prime Bishop, Anthony Mikovsky, who was elected at the 23rd SYNOD of the PNCC which was held in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada in early October. This celebration will be held on November 21st at St. Stanislaus Cathedral in Scranton.

Members of our parish raised funds to support our work by selling Polish food during the 2010 Little Falls Canal Celebration. On Friday evening we sold kielbasa and kapusta sandwiches in front of Rick’s Style Inn, 580 Main St., Little Falls. On Saturday, August 14th residents of the city were lined up at the church on 618 E. Gansevoort St., to purchase homemade pierogi and other delicious treats. Around 1,400 pierogi were bought within four hours! The overwhelming response was greatly appreciated but resulted in the lack of food to continue the sale on Sunday as planned.

On Saturday September 18th we will be hosting our annual Polka Fest from 1 to 5 at the East Herkimer Fish and Game Club. Tony’s Polka Band will be playing. We will be serving a full menu of homemade Polish food. We will also have a golumbki sale in conjunction with the blessing of pets on Saturday, October 16th at the church.

People of every ethnicity and background are welcome at Holy Spirit. To learn more about the parish, and our democratic Catholic Church, please call Fr. Rafal at (315) 823-0793.

The parish was formed in 1926. The new committee, elected at the meeting, is Chairperson John Rogers, Vice-chair Teddie Colorito, Treasurer Francis Crandall, Financial Secretary Karen Filipski, Recording Secretary Janice Kupidlowski-Rogers and Directors Suzanne Bladek, Joan Crandall, Amy Brien, Tim Brien, Anita Dulak, Jimmy Filipski, Ron Hrobuchak and Gary Crandall.

The parish maintains a cemetery on Route 5 in East Herkimer. The cemetery committee members are Chairman Teddy Wojicki, Tim Brien, Jimmy Filipski, Mark Wojcicki, Jennifer Crandall, Suzanne Bladek, Cheryl Crandall and Ron Hrobuchak.

The PNCC was organized in Scranton, PA in 1897. Some of the differences between the denomination and Roman Catholic Church are that PNCC priests are allowed to marry and that the PNCC is a democratic church where the people control the finances of the Parish and elect the bishops of the Church. The Bishops of the Church cannot force a Parish to close or merge, only the people who own and maintain the Parish can make that decision for themselves.

Holy Mass is normally offered at our Parish at 11 a.m. on Sundays. People of all ethnicities and backgrounds are welcome. Holy Mass is celebrated in English though Polish hymns are often sung. To learn more about the parish please call Fr. Rafal Dadello at (315) 823-0793.
